A Day in the Life as an Arts & Sciences Student

As a sophomore Sociology student in the College of Arts and Sciences, I balance a full class schedule, but also participate in a variety of activities that allow me to pursue non-academic interests. Join me as I walk you through a typical day!

Wednesdays are my busiest days of the week as I have an early morning class, so I wake up at 8 am and get ready. From West Campus, where I reside, Kennedy Hall is on the further side, where my first class, , is. Professor Hoffman always tries to introduce us to new opportunities, as he often has research opportunity sign-ups at the beginning of class. However, in this specific class, there were presenters from the College of Human Ecology, introducing us to the Summer Internship program and the program. After the presentations, we had a lecture about physical development in middle to late childhood, exploring physical and neurological growth, motor development, and diverse health factors.  

After the class, I went to one of my favorite breakfast spots on campus: . I got bacon, egg, and cheese in a plain bagel sandwich with an iced chai latte. Then I walked back to my dorm to eat, rest, and do some homework before my next class at 1:25 p.m. My next class is at Statler Hall. We have alternating professors, but for this week, we had Professor Vidan. While the class is a relatively large size, there are interactive activities and discussions. In this class, we learned about policies surrounding digital watermarking and its concepts.  

When this class ended at 2:15 p.m., I went to, which is inside Statler Hall, making it convenient for another coffee and a break before going to my next class in Ives Hall. My last class is . Today, there was a short lecture with a discussion activity. This class incorporates creative ways for students to discuss and learn new concepts, as I especially enjoyed our exam review session last week, where I both had fun and learned a lot about the concepts that were on the exam.  

After class ended at 4:10 p.m., I headed over to my meeting, where we do fun icebreakers and talk about the articles we are working on for publication on the BRSN website. I am currently working on a Big Red Spotlights piece with a senior on the team, where I got to interview and write about her journey as a student-athlete at ݮƵ. After the meeting, I headed over to a new member training session for The ݮƵ Sun department. Our editor, Maia, led the session with key information we have to know when we write for the Sun, as well as interactive activities to meet the other new writers and talk about creative new ideas for the fall. The meeting ended at 6:30 pm, and I headed over to my dorm, where I met with a friend and went to dinner at Collegetown, a quick 10-minute walk. After dinner, I returned to my room, and I finally ended my day with some rest.
