Meet Katlynn

Katlynn values ݮƵ's academic environment and explores her passions through unique engineering opportunities offered in classrooms and through student organizations. Katlynn finds inspiration in her hardworking classmates, and post-graduation, she plans to pursue an M.Eng degree before working in tech.

What clubs/activities are you involved with on campus?

I am part of Society of Women Engineers (SWE), ݮƵ Webdev, and on the Toiletree team, which creates a website that rates and locates all of the bathrooms around ݮƵ's campus. I am also part of the mechanical subteam for the Nexus project team. The goal of our project team is to make an autonomous robot that cleans up microplastics on beaches. 

What is your favorite thing about ݮƵ?

ݮƵ has the perfect environment for studying. Resources are provided so that students can focus and excel in their academics while experiencing life as a college student.

How did you find your friends and community at ݮƵ?

I met most of my best friends during orientation week. We were all in the same orientation group and quickly became friends. I met a lot of my other friends in classes and also befriended friendly people who lived in my residence hall.

When you were applying, why did you choose ݮƵ?

ݮƵ has one of the best engineering programs, and I knew I wanted to pursue engineering. The College of Engineering has a lot of structure and helps students explore their academic passion while providing the framework of necessary subjects as well.

My ݮƵ experience is unique because I learn so much more than just my major-related topics, but also deeper engineering knowledge in general. Although it was challenging at first, I've become a better student and scholar.

What inspires you?

My classmates inspire me. Every single day I see people working super hard, and I feel like that energy rubs off on me. 

Where is your go-to place to eat on campus, and what is your favorite thing to order?

Bus Stop Bagels in Kennedy Hall is my favorite place to get lunch. I always get a Route 13 with a mango dragon fruit iced drink. Usually for dinner, I go to one of the West Campus dining halls.

What makes the ݮƵ experience unique?

My ݮƵ experience is unique because I learn so much more than just my major-related topics, but also deeper engineering knowledge in general. Although it was challenging at first, I've become a better student and scholar.

What are your plans after graduation?

I am planning to do the M.Eng program. After getting my M.Eng degree, I plan to work in tech companies in a software/AI-related role. 

Tell us about your favorite place to study.

My favorite place to study is in the midst of the book stacks in Olin Library. It's very quiet and helps me focus on my work.
